Get to Know Staff - Girher and Thayet!

[user id="2122"] Where does your username come from? Somewhere I think around 2005, I realized I should stop using an alteration of brother's username, and make my own. My kid brain went "I like Gir from Invader Zim, and I'm a girl," and thus Girher was born. It has stuck ever since! What are you passionate about on Wajas? I'm really passionate about gen 2s. When I first joined wajas when it opened, I was a kid who couldn't buy customs or much of anything on the site, so I felt so excited when I was gifted my first gen 2. From then on, I just really adored collecting gen 2s of designs that liked. It's so fun to see what users design, and I feel connected to the userbase that way! I have no design skills, so I adore appreciating what beauties others can create. What do you collect? (On Wajas, irl, or both!)? As stated above, on wajas I collect gen 2s that I like the design of. I currently own over 4900 gen 2s, and it boosts my serotonin to look at my pretty pixel army. In real life, I collect photo c1880s-1960s photographs, vintage clothing, and enamel pins. Share one of your fondest memories related to Wajas. This is more of a journey than one memory, but Wajas is really the place where my art journey came from. I wanted to earn money on Wajas as a kid, so I sold adopts and commissions using MS Paint and my mouse on the forums. I learned so much, and found so much joy in art, that from there I really started wanting to pursue a career in art. From a tween selling MS Paint art to studying graphic design in college, to then starting a career in film, it's all thanks to Wajas. It all came full circle when I was able to become a Wajas site artist, and I've been over the moon! Where are you from? I'm originally from California, but now split my time between there and Tennessee, when I'm not traveling for work. What are your hobbies or passions outside of Wajas? Outside of Wajas, I'm an avid horse person. I compete in three-day eventing, an equine triathlon sport, and also used to teach youth lessons. When I'm not riding, I'm going to estate sales to find neat vintage items! My other passion is going to different hobby conventions of any type and people-watching. What game(s) are you currently playing? I'm not much of a gamer myself, but I LOVE watching others play. Lately I've been watching my boyfriend play through the remastered Last of Us 2. What's your favorite place you've traveled to or have visited locally? I've traveled a lot for work, but my all-time favorite experience was when I was living in Vancouver, British Columbia over a summer for work. I would move there, if I could. It's got amazing food, people, and activities! I also loved studying abroad in Ireland for 3 weeks back in college. What pets do you have/what would your dream pet be? I would like to formally introduce my cat, Yuki, aka "Ma'am." She is an almost 3 year old, calico Scottish Fold, and she is the light of my life. She is the smartest, sassiest, and silliest cat I've ever met! What are some things on your bucket list? Competing in the Mongol Derby, a 10-day 1000km horse race, has been on my bucket list since 2017. As of earlier this month, I am beyond thrilled to announce that I will be competing in the 2025 Mongol Derby! I can't wait to check that off my bucket list, and hopefully come out unharmed! Cold weather or warm weather? Warm weather all the way. I can't shake my California roots, and I have trouble regulating in the cold, so I enjoy living like a lizard! She appears in a few different series by the author, and is one of my favourite characters. Tamora Pierce has been one of my favourite teen/ya authors forever so I opted to go with a character name when I first joined and never looked back. I even used the name for my first ever DnD campaign and in other games! What are you passionate about on Wajas? DEMON HORSE! Demon Horse is life. What do you collect? (On Wajas, irl, or both!)? Books and cats. I swear I’m not a crazy cat lady… cough cough… in Wajas… most items and dyes… not on purpose it just happens! Share one of your fondest memories related to Wajas. Probably participating in the STS events over the years. They always kept me coming back to the site and they are always a highlight of my year. Where are you from? Eh! What are your hobbies or passions outside of Wajas? I really love crochet, which I picked up during the lockdowns. I also love to decorate cakes for special occasions. I’m very passionate about horses, I’ve been a rider my whole life and am a certified riding instructor and a University Professor in an Equine Program. What game(s) are you currently playing? Valheim has it’s hold right now, along with Lethal Company. Very different games but both are a lot of fun. What's your favorite place you've traveled to or have visited locally? Santorini is probably my favourite place to visit, Perissa beach is stunning and it’s just a beautiful island. If I could live anywhere I would live in the UK though, it was my favourite place to live. What pets do you have/what would your dream pet be? I have 4 cats (oops, that cat distribution system works too well), as well as a horse so… I’m at my cap. I love rabbits though and someday hope to have one again when I have a house and more space. What are some things on your bucket list? Visiting San Francisco, Asia, and New Zealand. Road trip across Canada to BC. I would also love to someday go on a multi-day trek on horseback across Iceland and would love to see the Northern Lights. Cold weather or warm weather? Cold, 100% I hate the heat. It’s easier to warm up than to cool down, Autumn and Winter are my favourite seasons. Thayet is happy to answer questions in the comments!
