Good morning folks! As many of you have noticed, we've got some changes in staff! We had some staff step down to focus on IRL things, we've promoted one of our Forum Mods (Congratulations Bluee!), and we've brought on some new Forum Mods!

To see who our current staff is, please visit here.

You can sort by rank if you click the role icon, it will also provide a description of what each role can do.

Introducing our new Forum Mods
Please give them a warm welcome! We're happy to have them on the team.

Introducing: Averan

Hello Averan, could you please take a minute to tell us about yourself?
"Hello! I’m Averan! I use they/them pronouns. I’ve been on Wajas for a very long time, and I care about it a lot! I love collecting colorful Wajas and pretty fades. Outside of Wajas, I work as a website designer, and dream of one day being a novelist. I love Monster Hunter and am always thinking about The Locked Tomb books with at least 5% of my brain."

What is your favorite rock and plant?
Favorite rock: Amber
Favorite plant: Marimo moss balls

What is your favorite Wajas NPC?
"Ruffles. Someone give this sweet pup a hug and make her dreams come true!"

What is your favorite marking / mutation / breed?
Marking: Stars
Mutation: Mane
Breed: Tempest!

What is your favorite non-gen 1 Waja?
"Probably this one, for sentimental reasons! There are so many I love dearly, though."

What is your favorite fruit and veggie…and type of bread?
Fruit: Apricot
Veggie: Bell peppers (any color, including green)
Bread: Pumpernickel!

What is your favorite dino or extinct critter?
"The quagga, which was a subspecies of the zebra with a really beautiful stripe pattern."

Info dump your favorite media piece ( it can be a game, movie, book, etc), pretend like you’re explaining it to someone who has never heard about it and you’re trying to convince them it is the bees knees and they should definitely try looking into it.
"Okay, so, my favorite game in the whole world is Monster Hunter: World. Yes I know Monster Hunter: Rise just came out, and it is also super amazing, but listen. Listen. World was my first Monster Hunter game, and there’s something about it that feels like it has a huge sense of scale. I’ve played it through twice and will again. The monster designs are so cool! It takes a bit to learn the controls, but if you are patient it is completely worth it. The feeling of discovery and making your way through a vast world full of enormous monsters is my favorite thing."

What is your favorite Item (s)?
"I love anything rainbow. Basically, everything on Stratus here."

If you were trapped on an island with any three things from Wajas, with no limitations, what three things would you choose and why?
  • 1. A big hoard of Concentrated Vitamin Pears, which obviously give all the nutrients you need so there’s no need to worry about food.
  • 2. Loch Ness, because we could swim away together!
  • 3. Horse Plushie. Just because it’s cute.

What meme best describes you?

If you design Wajas, do you enjoy working with certain mutation/marking/color combinations and if so, what are they and why?
"I gravitate towards my favorite colors: vibrant blues, purples, cyans/teals, and pinks, as well as the holo texture. I love every marking related to stars, and also often find myself using markings like Piebald, Spotted Tabby and Lines, and Wild Dog Upper."

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
"I have three cats! Well, my partner has three cats, and I live with them, so they’re my stepcats. 😛 We have a brown tabby named Lucifer, a tuxedo named Thanatos, and an orange tabby named Cerberus. We call them Luci, Than, and Cer for short! They are the sweetest boys in the whole world. Luci is friendly and likes to pace back and forth across my desk all day. He’s not a big snuggler, but he is very affectionate. Than is incredibly shy and nervous — but after a month here, I can now pet him! Cer is a silly baby in his rebellious teenage phase, so he is full of mischief. If I ever accidentally send a message somewhere of random keystrokes, it was almost certainly him stomping across my keyboard."

Do you remember, way back when you first joined Wajas, the first Waja that really sparked your interest and that you just *had* to have?
"I do, actually! It was this waja, Bloomingflower. I have a little blurb about it in her description. I still think she’s super cute."

How did you find Wajas?
"When I was in middle school, my friend group was all into Wajas. At the time, registration was invite-only, so one of them gave me their side account so I could play with them when I expressed interest. None of them play Wajas anymore, and I haven’t talked to them in years, but I’ll always be thankful that they introduced me to something that brings me happiness every day and has for a long time."

Now that you’re on the team, what are you most excited about? Also, can you tell us anything about what’s going on behind the scenes? You know…on the down low. No one has to know. ;D
"I’m so excited to be part of the team and part of all the delightful chaos. I’m really looking forward to helping out with events and things like that! And of course I can’t! All I’ll say is, the staff is hard at work on amazing things as always, so be excited! 👀"

Introducing: Jettalli

Hello Jettalli, could you please take a minute to tell us about yourself?
"Hello. My name is Jettalli (or just Jett if that is easier), and I have been playing wajas since 2009. I enjoy video games, telling stories, and drawing when I can stave off the dreaded art block. On site I have been enjoying making personal characters into customs and collecting glitched wajas when not hanging out on the forums with our awesome community."

What is your favorite rock and plant?
"Tiger’s eye and the mimosa tree."

What is your favorite Wajas NPC?
"Tie between Ruffles and Howie."

What is your favorite marking / mutation / breed?
"Ritual / Punk Mane / Tempest"

What is your favorite non-gen 1 Waja?
"Flemeth! ID is 1359."

What is your favorite fruit and veggie…and type of bread?
"Pineapple, carrots, and garlic bread."

What is your favorite dino or extinct critter?
"Andrewsarchus." Sadi Note: "Andrewsarchus is now thought to be a Cetancodont, which is a clade that includes whales, entelodonts, and hippos, and its' not related to sheep and goats or Mesonychid." - Pulled from Google.

Info dump your favorite media piece ( it can be a game, movie, book, etc), pretend like you’re explaining it to someone who has never heard about it and you’re trying to convince them it is the bees knees and they should definitely try looking into it.
"It can be a little slow to get into because the beginning is so dialogue heavy, but Okami is and continues to be probably my favorite game. You play as the divine wolf, Amaterasu, and embark on a long storyline with the bug-sized wandering artist Issun to reclaim your lost powers and stop evil. The art style of this game is inspired by Japanese watercolor / wood carvings and is just so gorgeous. Plenty of humor, combat, fun characters to get attached to, and so many sidequests. I have beaten it a dozen or so times, but I had a file that I totally cleared up to the point of no return where you have to finish the game I kept simply so I could enjoy running around the world and casually fighting monsters. I actually held onto and kept my PS2 set up to keep access to it until they made the leap to the Switch. Digital only except in Japan (you can totally import a physical copy though) and takes up a ton of memory, but for me it was totally worth it."

What is your favorite Item (s)?
"Plastic waja, Lightning Bolt, and Darkest Shadows."

If you were trapped on an island with any three things from Wajas, with no limitations, what three things would you choose and why?
"Plastic waja so I have a friend that doesn’t have to eat, Slime Potion to give myself gills so I can swim all I like and hunt for fish, and Apollo’s Fireplace Midground because I might as well have a fire AND be cozy. Is it just one wall? Maybe. I am not sure."

What meme best describes you?

If you design Wajas, do you enjoy working with certain mutation/marking/color combinations and if so, what are they and why?
"I don’t design as much as I used to, but looking at the past few I have I appear to be on a green kick. That and I think the way the Arctic’s Tiger Stripes line up with Stripes Marking Mutations on Mane and Bat Wings is so perfect."

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
"I have two elderly cats who keep my life interesting and covered in cat hair. Bogart (or Bogie) is my nearly 22 year old rescue, tuxedo. He has his old kitty issues, but still looks stunning for his age. Mia is a 16 year old Tabby-tortie rescue who is pretty clingy and could stand to lose a few pounds, but very loving. She likes to be pat like a big, sturdy dog. I used to have a whole menagerie of critters, but these two punks are plenty to keep me company."

Do you remember, way back when you first joined Wajas, the first Waja that really sparked your interest and that you just *had* to have?
"I was a little overwhelmed at first, but I picked a breed and a marking on the waja search. The Fire breed , Ocelot, and fate lead me to my first waja, Hawk (#1603716). She will always have a special place in my cave."

How did you find Wajas?
"It was quite a while back, but 70% sure it was one of those game directories. That or someone mentioned it on one of the other petsites."

Now that you’re on the team, what are you most excited about? Also, can you tell us anything about what’s going on behind the scenes? You know…on the down low. No one has to know. ;D
"Aside from being part of such a lovely team I am really excited for Halloween stuff next month. I have been excited since before the promotion, but still. There is so much cool stuff ahead guys. Sworn to secrecy though or they will leave me on that deserted island a few questions ago." Sadi Notes - "wait...that's an option? Estu, you and I are going on vacay for spilling secrets."

Introducing: Starbit

Hello Starbit, could you please take a minute to tell us about yourself?
"Hi! I’m Starbit. You’ve probably seen me around the forums greeting new players. I really enjoy helping newbies navigate the site and seeing them blossom into becoming a part of this wonderful community. I recently graduated with a Masters in Educational Psychology and hope to help out struggling students in school. When I am not on Wajas, I love to snuggle my dog, watch anime, and play videogames."

What is your favorite rock and plant?
"I like any kind of shiny rock. I also have a growing collection of houseplants and one I would love to add to my collection is a Monstera Albo but those are very expensive."

What is your favorite Wajas NPC?
"Elizabeth because I think she is cute and I find her relatable."

What is your favorite marking / mutation / breed?
Marking: Wind
Mutation: Punk Mane
Breed: Normal

What is your favorite non-gen 1 Waja?
"Gosh, that’s a tough one.I’ll say this one because I also really love the dress up I did."

What is your favorite fruit and veggie…and type of bread?
"I love so many kinds of fruit. Pomegranate season is coming up and I am super pumped for that. Farm fresh pea pods are my favorite veggie. I haven’t had any in a long time though. As for bread, any bread is my favorite as long as it is soft and fresh. My husband is gluten-free so I don’t get to eat bread very often anymore."

What is your favorite dino or extinct critter?
"I watched The Land Before Time growing up so I have to say Apatosaurus because of Littlefoot."

Info dump your favorite media piece ( it can be a game, movie, book, etc), pretend like you’re explaining it to someone who has never heard about it and you’re trying to convince them it is the bees knees and they should definitely try looking into it.
"Officially the Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game series but a lesser known game that I absolutely adore is Tales of Symphonia. It came out on the Gamecube 18 years ago. It’s very nostalgic for me for many reasons but overall I just love the story and the characters. There is so much to do in the game and the way everything unfolds just has lots of twists and turns. I can’t say anything else because I don’t want to spoil anything."

What is your favorite Item (s)?
"Hands down the cherry blossom midgrounds. They are just such a great item but I feel like I use them too much in dress ups."

If you were trapped on an island with any three things from Wajas, with no limitations, what three things would you choose and why?
"The Pear Tree so I would have a never ending supply of pears to eat, campfire for warmth, and a fishing rod to catch fish."

What meme best describes you?

If you design Wajas, do you enjoy working with certain mutation/marking/color combinations and if so, what are they and why?
"I found that I tend to stick to a handful of color palettes - teal/purple, blue/pink, rainbow pastel, and sunset just because I gravitate towards them so much. I also use Underside and Hindsight a lot and I am trying to branch out more with different markings."

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
"Yes! I have a painted turtle named Ponyo. She is always hungry. I also adopted an Antolian Shepherd dog this year named Gabby. She weighs over 100 lbs and I love her so much."

Do you remember, way back when you first joined Wajas, the first Waja that really sparked your interest and that you just *had* to have?
"One of the first wajas I got obsessed with was given to me in a newbie giveaway. I just loved her color and combination of markings and so she has a special place in my cave. Years later, I was able to purchase her mother too so that was very exciting."

How did you find Wajas?
"Oh gosh, the details are lost on me because this was so long ago but I vaguely remember someone on Chickensmoothie mentioning it and they gave me an unaged pup as my first waja. "

Now that you’re on the team, what are you most excited about? Also, can you tell us anything about what’s going on behind the scenes? You know…on the down low. No one has to know. ;D
"Now I can’t give anything away, but I will say there is something coming soon that I have wanted for a very long time. I really think this will be a game changer for Wajas."

Introducing: Nixie

Hello Nixie, could you please take a minute to tell us about yourself?
Teacher | Plant Whisperer | Barefoot Walking Enthusiast | Bad Poet

"Nixie is an oldie on this site (since 2007) who occasionally writes stuff. On site, she’s taken part in some wonderful RPs in the past and can’t seem to stay away from design contests. She can generally be found on the forums and in the custom demo. Off site, she enjoys watching stars, needlessly encouraging plants, and hiking barefoot. She spent the first several years of her life moving some state to state on the east coast and has, hopefully, finally landed in a place for good! She aspires to learn how to forage for mushrooms, wants to brew kombucha again, and loves to bake."

What is your favorite rock and plant?
"My favorite plant is a philodendron named Philomena. We’ve been through some tough times together. I don’t have a friendship with a particular rock, but I have a salt rock lamp that I’m very fond of."

What is your favorite Wajas NPC?
"Flash has the coolest hair."

What is your favorite marking / mutation / breed?
"Phase/BOB CUT/Egyptian"

What is your favorite non-gen 1 Waja?
"The very first waja that I ever received on the site is really special to me!"

What is your favorite fruit and veggie…and type of bread?
"Peaches. Especially in cobblers. Brussel sprouts. Especially roasted over an open fire. And as a hardcore bread enthusiast, it’s really hard to beat homemade beer bread."

What is your favorite dino or extinct critter?
"The Very Noble Dodo Bird."

Info dump your favorite media piece ( it can be a game, movie, book, etc), pretend like you’re explaining it to someone who has never heard about it and you’re trying to convince them it is the bees knees and they should definitely try looking into it.
"AH! I almost missed this question. Harry Potter – nostalgia to the max – and probably the reason I got into education, so I could be like Snape. There’s magic! There are talking paintings! There’s adventure! There’s humor! There’s the hero’s journey that Joseph Campbell wrote about ages ago followed to the T! Not to mention the books are long enough to keep a person occupied for a while!"

What is your favorite Item (s)?
"Summer Sunrays Foreground"

If you were trapped on an island with any three things from Wajas, with no limitations, what three things would you choose and why?
"Uniphant, Collection of Books, Quill"

What meme best describes you?

If you design Wajas, do you enjoy working with certain mutation/marking/color combinations and if so, what are they and why?
"I love bringing in new markings and really adore mutation markings. Bob cut, horse mane, long tail, and mane will always have a special place in my heart. I also enjoy bringing in subtle color and blending with softer markings like current, phase, and soft roan."

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
"I have a dog named Milton! He enjoys long walks on the beach, singing opera music, and playing hide-and-go-seek. He never outgrew the puppy tendency of sitting down in the middle of a walk to stare at someone’s house… which can be a little awkward."

Do you remember, way back when you first joined Wajas, the first Waja that really sparked your interest and that you just *had* to have?
So back in my first days on this site, dyes were not a thing and rainbow was the only texture available on the demo, and there were all these wild things that people could do with that single texture – opacity glitches being the most fabulous. Before I could have even feasibly made a custom, I saw these opacity glitch customs and fell in love! They were so cool, and I dreamed of making my own someday.

How did you find Wajas?
"I was there was some exciting story about this – a friend in school years ago told me about it and I checked in out!"

Now that you’re on the team, what are you most excited about? Also, can you tell us anything about what’s going on behind the scenes? You know…on the down low. No one has to know. ;D
"I’m just excited to be a part of the team and to be able to contribute to this amazing site! Oh, and yeah, yeah I could. In the form of a haiku:"
There is so much stuff
Going on behind the scenes –
You will find out soon.
