Breeding Contest Feature Tutorial and FAQ
Sadi April 16, 2022 1:18 pm
Hello, hello! Sadi here with the promised tutorial. It does not cover everything the Breeding Feature can/cannot do, we're always growing and this was a massive feature, but it does give you a starting point. Captions are a broad overview of my ramblings as I show you how to use the feature.

Outside of that, I wanted to cover a few questions that we keep getting, so I will do that now. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to post them on this thread with a ping to Bluee, # 84832, she's going through and testing right along side you and will answer your questions as quickly as possible.

"What do we start with for the breeding contest?"
You MUST start with 1 Rooster (the Rooster does not need to be one you own, so if you have not found one you like yet, you can breed with a Rooster that a friend owns). Given the goal of the event is to breed in another marking with a minimum of 80%, your Roosters mate should be a non-Rooster for best odds at completing the required goals.

"Do we have to start with a new rooster purchased from the breeding shop or can we start with one we already have?"
Doesn't matter, just a pure Rooster! It can be a new one or an old one, either route is fine.

"How many breedings do we need to do?"
The easiest way to say this is that you cannot submit until the feature has reached the maximum breedings (five breedings for this event), so just keep going until it gives you the option to submit.

"Can one of the initial starting pair have a dye marking applied (say to a markless waja)?"
No. No dyes can be applied to any of the parents or pups used in the breeding contest. If the dyes were added before the contest started, that’s okay. So like if you had a custom or something that’s already dyed up with that marking, you could use it, but only if the dye was applied before the event started.

"Are we allowed to breed change the roosters we get and still use them for the breeding contest? "
You may.

"What pears are and are not allowed?"
Appearance changing pears are NOT allowed. Meaning: Marking and Mutation pears.

Other pears are allowed. Meaning: Love Pears, Normal Pears, Vitamins, Age Pears, Gender Pears, Strange Pears, and Male Pears are allowed.

"Are we allowed to use already existing wajas outside of the initial pair to keep breeding the Preferred pup to?"
Yep!

"We are allowed to breed the pups back to other Rooster Wajas right?"
Absolutely! That's the only way you'll keep that Rooster Marking strong! Get it!

"Are we allowed to breed the resulting pups from pair 1 (on a main account) to the pups from pair 2 (on our secondary)?"
Sure! It's not required to only be in cave breedings, just that at least one of the Wajas IS in your cave. This just ultimately prevents people from accidentally putting the wrong ID or something.

"I made a mistake and chose the wrong Waja, can you restart it?"
No staff cannot restart it. We do not have that option. If you messed up the only way to restart it is if the project you have is no longer viable (ex: did you add a wand to one of the parents?), in which case a restart option will become available to you on that page because you cannot continue with your current project. This however, restarts the WHOLE project.

We recommend doing what a lot of users are doing:
Tracking your ideas for the project in an external area - a lot of people are using google spreadsheets. Then inputting once you've finalized your choices. You CAN input your project information even after breeding. You can also enter after the Wajas have been born. This in theory, could help prevent errors.

"Where is the shop for Roosters? It's empty and I can't get one, did I miss out?"
The shop is located under Explore, it is called Breeding Shop. You have not missed out, there will be Roosters going in every hour on the hour through the next two weeks. Just have patience and keep checking and you'll get one eventually!

"If there's any Roosters left over at the end of this, what will you do with them?"
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Host a pool party and invite only the cool kids left over I guess. But honestly we'll decide when that happens, if that happens.

That's all I have for you guys today. I will be getting off and will probably not be available for questions really until Monday - need to take a small break after all this stuff leading up to getting this feature rolled out. So make sure you ping Bluee if you have any questions!
