ā€Are you done using the green paint?ā€

ā€Yeah, it’s right here. What are you painting?ā€

ā€A ghost in a cemetery. What are you painting?ā€

Romulus gave his head a toss, throwing the bangs out of his eyes as he shifted to grab the green paint, gaze trying to steal a peek at Remus’ masterpiece.

ā€It’s a secret! Don’t look!ā€ Remus moved, covering his work with his body. It was common knowledge that Remus did not like to show unfinished works to anyone, it could make bad juju fall upon the work, everyone knew that!

Romulus rolled his eyes. ā€That superstition doesn’t count for brothers!ā€ However, he didn’t try to press the matter.

The duo worked in silence for some time, Remus in his neat, organized way, and Romulus like a tornado, paint splattered all over the area around them.

ā€The masterpiece is FINISHED!ā€ Romulus sat back, his work held up high in the air, a goofy grin plastered across his face.

A mumbled response was all Remus gave, but Romulus knew what he’d said. ā€One more minute, almost done over here!ā€

Romulus stared, impatiently, at his brother's back. Fluffy tail twitched to and fro, making it very clear that he couldn’t sit still even for a second. A whole three seconds passed before the older pup spoke again. ā€Are you done yeeeet? I’m booooored!ā€ The whining was clear. He scooted closer, trying once more to peek over his brother's shoulder.

Just as he was an inch away, Remus spun around. ā€All done!ā€ He wasn’t as loud as Romulus had been when announcing his completion. In his paws, was a true work of art, no one could argue which of the two pieces was the masterpiece.

Romulus gave a pout. ā€No fair, you took longer so of course yours is better!ā€ Despite his sulking, he leaned in close and eyeballed his brother's work. ā€You can’t even tell that it’s a brick!ā€

Remus’ brick had been painted depicting a Halloween night in Lunaria, it contained every single known NPC and then some! Every building was spotlighted, and everyone was dressed up. It looked as though it were straight out of reality. Romulus couldn’t even compare his brick, which had only one side painted, and even then the ghost resembled something closer to a stick than a ghost, and the graves probably could be mistaken for an accidental blot on the canvas.

ā€Not at all! Your brick is wonderful too! It’s a different kind of wonderful. Everyone who tries is a masterpiece.ā€ His face was heated, and it was clear he was feeling bashful after his brothers sulking praise.

ā€Hmm..ā€ Romulus stroked his chin thoughtfully, eyeing his brick. ā€You’re right. Of course my brick is also wonderf--ā€

ā€What. HAVE. YOU. DOOOOOOOONE!ā€ Romulus and Remus spun to face the explosive voice.

ā€Georgie!ā€ Romulus pranced towards him. ā€We got bored while we were waiting for you to get home to play, so we decorated a bit! Your house needed some spooking up. Get in the holiday a bit!ā€

While Romulus was showing no fear, Remus was quick to try and hide his masterpiece, eyes wide on the banker. He’d TOLD Romulus it was a bad idea! HE’D TOLD HIM! Now they were going to get in trouble again.

ā€You dratted whelps! Where’s your father?! He’s going to hear it this time! You two you just come right with me, we’re going to...we’re going to!ā€ His face was turning bright red as his anger rose even further. ā€IS THAT MY FAVORITE BRICK!?ā€ He eyed the one that Remus had pushed behind him. ā€YOU RUINED MY FAVORITE BRICK?!ā€

He stepped forward, and as soon as he moved, Romulus bolted, cackling. ā€Run Remus! He can’t catch us!ā€ Remus’ eyes widened at his brother's demand, and before he knew it, he was chasing after him.

One might think that George would struggle to keep up with them, but he was only a pawful of steps behind, and that just spurred the boys faster and further. While Romulus was cackling, clearly enjoying the chase, Remus felt sheer panic. They’d done it this time! He’d done it this time! He hadn’t known it was Georgie’s favorite brick! It really was just the best one to be his canvas for what he’d planned to do. He wanted to cry.

They broke through the entrance to the mining cave, and he continued following Romulus. Somewhere behind them, George’s labored breathing could be heard. He didn’t know the cave like the boys did - the boys had spent a good portion of their life sneaking around down here, despite having been forbidden by their father to do so.

Deeper into the cavern’s they went, further and further until things stopped looking familiar. Until the rats and the raccoons and even the friendly ghost who always asked about kooky Fred and played word games with them were nowhere in sight.

ā€Romulus! Wait! Where are we?!ā€ Remus was a bit scared at this point.

Romulus slowed to a stop. It was hard to see...he had no idea where they were, to their right was a large pool of water that took up almost half of the room and ahead of them...a wall. Just as he was about to confess that he had no idea where they were, a quick glance back at Remus stopped him. He grinned. ā€Don’t worry little brother! I’d never get us lost, you trust me right?ā€

Remus frowned, glancing around again, but sighed. ā€Yes. But we’re at a dead end.ā€ Remus was sure that George had long ago given up...he wanted to turn around and go back. He’d almost welcome his father’s scolding at this point.

A noise, it didn’t sound like George, sounded from down the hall and was drawing near. Loud and explosive, like nails on a chalkboard. Panic flooded poor Remus’ small body. Breathing grew harder, and he was really about to cry now. ā€Romulusā€¦ā€ He whimpered.

WHAT SHOULD THE BOYS DO?! (There is a site poll for you to vote on!)
